AEW WrestleDream 2024 card and predictions
Mark Briscoe (c) vs. Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship
Darius: I’m pleasantly surprised that the Conglomeration vs. Learning Tree feud progressed past the retread of Jericho and Orange Cassidy’s 2020 feud. I could actually see Jericho and Briscoe having a pretty solid match with one another, and it’s a fresh one at that. As for the winner, I think my worries are eased by the fact that Jericho has already been ROH Champion. If that were a new accomplishment for Jericho, the broken part of me could very easily see Jericho win the gold for the first time. However, between Jericho already being part of the ROH World Championship lineage, Jericho having just recently lost a title, and Mark being more intense than ever before seen in AEW due to Jericho mentioning his late brother in a promo, I highly doubt the title will change hands on Saturday.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Shane: I’m going to be that guy that says “I wish there was a more concrete separation between AEW and ROH rosters”. Jericho is an AEW performer and should not be anywhere near the ROH World Championship. With that being said, thank goodness he’s already won the title because I don’t see it happening again.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Jay: This feud scares me. I don’t think Jericho has had many one-off matches during his entire tenure in AEW so I think Jericho might take it here to begin the program. Plus, they do need an attraction for ROH and sending Jericho there, in theory, may work. But also, we have had several ROH champions just never appear on the show so idk.
Winner: Chris Jericho
Darby Allin vs. Brody King

Darius: They tried to create a story for this feud in the past two weeks, and it’s been a passable effort. I think Darby hitting Brody in the head with a rock is crazy, but it’s not enough of a hook to make me think that this match could go either way. Darby just lost a world title shot (for stupid reasons), so getting a win over a giant in Darby’s home state of Washington should help him get some of that heat back. I’m not sure if Darby is the “face of AEW” that he says he is, but I do think that he could be. It’s not like he loses all the time, but after losing to Jack Perry at All In and Moxley at Grand Slam, Darby definitely doesn’t need a third big loss in a row if he wants to be AEW’s poster boy.
Winner: Darby Allin
Shane: Didn’t this feud kinda just happen? Darby didn’t lose to Brody King last time they fought, so why start now?
Winner: Darby Allin
Jay: Darby Allin. They are clearly trying to heat him up and he needs to get his heat back after losing to Mox.
Winner: Darby Allin
Jack Perry (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata for the TNT Championship

Darius: Jack is going to win. He’s going to get beat up really, really bad, but Jack’s going to win. I love watching Shibata wrestle, but if it’s not ROH and he’s not teaming up with Orange Cassidy, I just kind of expect that Shibata is going to lose. I hate to feel that way, but with the roll that Jack is on (supposedly), I don’t see a heatless Shibata being the one who does him in. I would absolutely welcome it, though!
Winner: Jack Perry
Shane: It’s amazing how far Jack Perry has come since his Jungle Boy days. It’s a testament to the great heel work he’s done since his suspension that Shibata winning sounds like a long shot.
Winner: Jack Perry
Jay: I’m sorry, Jack Perry isn’t doing it for me. He’d be a great CAW in an e-fed and is probably the best storyline the angsty 20 year old in his college dorm room made while streaming his WWE 2K14 Universe Mode but idgaf. I’d love it if Shibata took it but he won’t. Perry had so much heat after the TK angle but it went nowhere.
Winner: Jack Perry
Will Ospreay (c) vs. Ricochet vs. Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship

Darius: I expect that Takeshita is going to be the one to end Okada’s title reign. If he’s not doing that, he should win this match. Generally speaking, I think Takeshita should win a championship or four. He’s that guy. However, while I do think Takeshita SHOULD win, I don’t necessarily think that he WILL, and I actually think that this triple threat is one of the hardest matches to predict on this show. The only reason I’m going with Ospreay is because he really just won it back at All In, and even though I don’t think that every title reign has to be this lengthy ordeal, I do think that Ospreay’s going to hold onto this thing for at least another month or two based on AEW’s title reign patterns.
Winner: Will Ospreay
Shane: I guess one of the good things about AEW having so many titles is the fact that you can throw in short reigns with the mid card belts to keep things interesting while you have longer reigns towards the top of the card. I think putting any strong champion in a triple threat match is an easy and effective way to get the title off of them and onto someone else without the champion necessarily taking the fall. Because of this, I can totally see either Takeshita or Ricochet winning, but I’m going to side with Takeshita. The only real reason why I can see Ricochet winning is for TK to shut us internet wrestling fans up.
Winner: Konosuke Takeshita
Jay: You can put the International Title on Beyonce and have her feud with Taylor Swift, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, The Rock, and LeBron James and still no one would give a f*ck. This match will be great. Many flips will be had. And no one will remember it. I can see Takeshita taking but Will is the safe bet.
Winner: William Ospreay
The Young Bucks (c) vs. Private Party for the AEW World Tag Team Championship

Darius: Please, Private Party. Please win. I just want something new. Something different. Tag champions who actually show up and doing champion stuff. It would be so validating to watch Private Party throw back to five years ago and beat the Young Bucks again, this time for a title. I just know it’s not happening, though. If the Young Bucks lose, how are the Elite going to hold up four belts together?
Winners: The Young Bucks
Shane: Does anybody really feel like Private Party has a chance of winning? They have as much of a shot of being tag champs as I don’t know, Butcher and the Blade.
Winners: The Young Bucks
Jay: I think Private Party deserves their time in the sun but it’ll stick with The Bucks. Like with Jungle Boy above, they had so much heat and it went nowhere. What happened to The Bucks that I loved?
Winners: The Young Bucks
Mariah May (c) vs. Willow Nightingale for the AEW Women’s World Championship

Darius: If Mariah loses on Saturday without interference — and I am not advocating for interference — Mariah’s whole AEW career is in shambles. Months spent being a sidekick to build to a heartbreaking heel turn and emotional title win, only to do next to nothing as champion and then lose to the first challenger? Please. I would selfishly love for Willow Nightingale to win this match because, much like Takeshita, I also think that Willow should have like one or eight belts around her waist at all times. I just think it’d be a disservice to Mariah to have her fail here after only a short, mostly directionless stint as Women’s World Champion.
Winner: Mariah May
Shane: One does not simply defeat “Timeless” Toni Storm to turn around and lose the Women’s Championship almost immediately. That would do nothing but damage the reputation of the belt that has been built up to mean so much.
Winner: Mariah May
Jay: Mariah May just started and this is a stand-in feud because Britt wasn’t available. It’s a shame because I can see Willow beating Mariah after Mariah beats Britt but Mariah’s reign is too young.
Winner: Mariah May
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Jay White

Darius: One of my biggest concerns following Hangman’s feud with Swerve was figuring out how Hangman gets away and stays away from Swerve for a while. Going after Swerve’s “supporters” was a natural turn, and facing Jeff Jarrett made sense. I think the pivot from that strap match to the match with Juice Robinson and now to this match with Jay White is very important because, elsewhere on this card, Swerve Strickland is returning to AEW, and I think Hangman needs to stay busy. How do you do that? You have Jay White beat him. Make Hangman mad. Make him switch targets, if with a little lower intensity. Jay White is the perfect menace to steal your attention from a previous threat, and I think a win for Jay not only helps build Jay’s record in AEW, but it also helps Hangman’s progression. Also, I really enjoyed Jay White and Hangman’s NJPW feud, so calling back to that earns bonus points from me.
Winner: Jay White
Shane: I personally feel that Jay White’s AEW run has been, for a lack of better words, disappointing. A big win on PPV against a former AEW World Champion could put Switchblade back on the right track.
Winner: Jay White
Jay: Hangman will take it. He’s too hot right now to be derailed by a returning Switchblade. This will be a great match though and will stand out from the pack the way a Roman Reigns match did in ThunderDome era.
Winner: Hangman
MxM Collection vs. The Acclaimed
Darius: My long-time wrestling fan brain says that, as a tag team match on a pay-per-view, the winner of this match should be next in line for a tag title shot. As such, even though my brain says that MxM Collection would win this to establish themselves as a force in AEW, I cannot envision an MxM Collection vs Young Bucks match with their current gimmicks. However, I really don’t want to see The Acclaimed vs the Young Bucks again right now. Sure, I think The Acclaimed got screwed in-kayfabe heading into All In, as that match with the Young Bucks and FTR honestly should have just been The Acclaimed and the Bucks. I’m personally not invested enough in that chase to care about them going back to the match now, so I have to go with the option that would be fresher.
Winner: MxM Collection
Shane: I am a huge, huge mark for The Acclaimed. However, even I can admit that their schtick has run its course. Let’s let the new toys have their time to shine and on PPV. Something they never had the chance to do when they were employed elsewhere.
Winners: MxM Collection
Jay: MxM. I love The Acclaimed but they are in a rut. They are in desperate need of a reinvention and allowing them to hit rock bottom can be the start of it. Plus MxM is the new toy on the block and they need a signature win to establish themselves.
Winner: MxM Collection
Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos (Two out of three falls)

Darius: The Beast Mortos is worth more than just being a pin-eater, and while I’ve gone back and forth on how I think Tony Khan would handle this one — I mean, Hologram is a personal project of Tony’s, so he’s being protected pretty well — I think the X-factor that led to my decision was one Jake “The Snake” Roberts. When my mind was picturing LFI going to war against Hologram and Kommander, I can’t lie, I still sort of expected LFI to get jabronied after cheating to gain Mortos a fall over Hologram. While every incarnation of LFI has been kind of just booked to be around and kind of lose in AEW, I think the newness of Jake the Snake’s addition is what will help put Mortos over the edge. Do I think LFI will win the feud? I don’t really know about that, but to legitimize the new LFI and the addition of Jake the Snake as their manager, I think Mortos should probably eat Hologram. No, that’s not a typo for “beat.” I meant “eat.”
Winner: The Beast Mortos
Shane: I really don’t care very much who wins this match. This is going to be fun. I’m going to pick Hologram to just be different from Darius.
Winner: Hologram
Jay: I’d love it if Mortos won but Hologram is 1000% the character that TK made when you were forced to create a character for story mode in Day of Reckoning or WWE ‘12 back in the day. Triple H is to Seth Rollins as TK is to Hologram and Hologram will be given everything.
Winner: Hologram
Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship

Darius: It’s against a longtime friend. It’s against the faction he helped establish. It’s after a win over the faction on this week’s Dynamite. It’s after Bryan incidentally planted a seed of betrayal in Wheeler Yuta’s mind. It’s after the long-awaited match with Nigel McGuinness, and it’s after the rubber match with Okada. It’s also in Washington, Bryan’s home state. If Bryan Danielson is going to retire, Saturday would make a whole lot of sense. Maybe it’s just copium, though, but I don’t see Bryan losing. Something just doesn’t seem right. Maybe it’s the dangling thread of Darby being screwed out of his match with Bryan, but that loop can be closed easily. Darby’s story is becoming AEW Champion, not beating Danielson, so why couldn’t Darby just beat Moxley later? Besides, Saturday in Seattle would have made the most sense for such a Washington-based match-up (although the main event of this year’s All In would indicate otherwise). So, if it’s not Darby, what is it about this perfect finale of a match that makes me think it’s not over on Saturday? I honestly don’t know, but I just have a hunch.
Winner: Bryan Danielson
Shane: 2025 is still 2 ½ months away. That means I still have 2 ½ months of “full time” Bryan Danielson. It would be selfish of me to predict Danielson losing with that much time left on the clock. And I just really don’t want to see another Moxley title reign. He needs to go away again as far as I’m concerned.
Winner: Bryan Danielson
Jay: I think Dragon is lying to us. He doesn’t love his family. He isn’t retiring. He’s gonna wrestle till it’s time to put over Darby Allin at Double or Nothing.
Winner: Bryan Danielson
