One of the more popular sub-genres of haunted house movies will see the protagonist convinced to spend a set amount of time at the infamous home. Once these conditions have been met, the whole place will be cleansed of the evil that resides there. I Will Never You Alone is a ‘It’s All Yours’ haunted house movie about a man named Richard (Kenneth Trujillo) who is unable to find work or a place to live. He is offered a job that solves both problems. All he has to do is stay alone at a house for six days. Naturally, there is more to it. Before long, Richard had to deal with a witch that was murdered on the property centuries before.
I Will Never Leave You Alone sounds like it is going to be just another haunted house movie. There is a creepy doll, jump scares, and scary faces that appear out of nowhere. But there is much more than just the expected frights. Director DW Medoff takes audiences on a more character driven ride.
Richard is filled with guilt and regret and as anyone who has ever seen a horror movie knows, these are easy targets for any self-respecting witch. Even when he was not dealing with supernatural beings, Richard is tortured by the memories from this past. I Will Never Leave You Alone puts the audience in its lead’s head. The more Richard is alone with his thoughts, the longer his recollections become.
Trujillo is great in a role that is more about expressions than words. I Will Never Leave You Alone follows a person who is falling apart at the seams. This is true in some part about every haunted house movie, but there is much more gravity here. Trujillo brings a level of emotion that is not often seen in these types of movies. The end result is a powerful and scary watch.
