Happy Friday, and happy Fantastic Five day! Every Friday, we look back at the very best comics of the week and give props. This week, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest turns in another perfect issue, Dark Horse gets into the Halloween spirit, and more. Let’s get to the books!
The best comics of the week of October 16, 2024
#5: Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25
Ziglar is joined by Federico Sabbatini for a back up story, “Family Bitnitz”, where Miles encounters Deadpool’s daughter Ellie. Those who haven’t read Deadpool will probably want to pick it up after this, and those who are will love how Ziglar writes Miles and Ellie’s dynamic, as well as how Sabbatini captures both of their respective fighting styles. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25 is a big issue filled with big swings, and I hope the creative team keeps up this energy for another 25 issues.

#4: Local Man #25
Local Man #25 is a reminder of everything I love about superheroes, Image Comics itself, and storytelling.

#3: Nightwing #118
Nightwing #118 is a very strong final issue to close the book on Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s tenure on the series, and does so by successfuly putting the character in a better place than he was.

#2: Summer Shadows #2
If you were on the fence about Summer Shadows #1, the second issue is a home run. It combines compelling themes and horror in a delicious dish. Not since Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula has there been a horror that feels so romantic, haunting, and hypnotizing.

#1: Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #32
World’s Finest #32 is yet another visually stunning addition in DC lore, boasting an action-packed team-up narrative that hardly misses a beat. This series continues to be among the most fun superhero comics on the stands due to the sheer unapologetic blast that the creatives always seem to be having in this sandbox of a book. And though it does feel obvious in how the characters are used that Waid is ramping up for his upcoming Justice League Unlimited series with Dan Mora, World’s Finest is sure to remain a more than worthy sister title.
