This week was a big one for Marvel and DC heavyweights, but the top honor goes to Image’s Snotgirl.

Welcome back to another edition of Fantastic Five, where we shout out the best comics of the week! This week was a big one for Marvel and DC heavyweights, but the top honor goes to Image’s Snotgirl. Let’s get to the books!

Best comics of the week: February 5, 2025

#5: Batman #157

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of February 5, 2025

Zdarsky’s final issue, Batman #157, delivers a high-stakes, action-packed conclusion that cements his portrayal of Batman as a relentless, resourceful force. Despite juggling numerous subplots, the creative team skillfully wraps up key arcs, though not all elements—such as the Court of Owls—receive the same attention. The dynamic art and intense character moments make this a fitting end to Zdarsky’s memorable run, leaving a legacy of Batman’s unyielding spirit.

#4: Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of February 5, 2025

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1 sets the stage for Kylo Ren’s complex journey of self-discovery. It offers fans a deeper understanding of his inner conflict and connection to Darth Vader. With strong dynamic visuals and strong character work, this issue provides a promising start despite the limitations of prequel storytelling.

#3: Phoenix #8

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of February 5, 2025

Phoenix #8 is not just a stirring story of self-acceptance, but it truly strives to have Jean Grey come to terms with her past. It also brings to mind a line from William Shakespeare’s The Winter Tale: “Do as the heavens have done, forget your evil; With them forgive yourself.” The Bard probably didn’t know it, but he wrote the perfect line to describe Jean’s life.

#2: Batgirl #4

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of February 5, 2025

Batgirl #4 is another knockout for the humble Cass Cain enjoyer such as myself. And presumably you, if you’re reading this. I’m really excited to see how this arc draws to a close soon, and hopefully Brombal has other stories cooked up with this character, because I’m so not ready to say goodbye to this book. Here’s to a long and prosperous run!

#1: Snotgirl #18

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of February 5, 2025

Getting into Snotgirl has been a much-needed joy over the past few months. Hung and O’Malley’s weird noir comedy romance is a superb comic, one I’m glad to return to when a new issue drops.
