It has been quite a while, but the Green Lantern Corps is back! With the main Green Lantern series doing some wild space stuff, giving that big cast more breathing room is overdue. Main series writer Jeremy Adams and artist Fernando Pasarin are teaming up with Morgan Hampton to bring the Corps back to the Space Frontier. AIPT was very lucky to sit in on a chat with the writers Adams and Hampton as they talked about this series and expectations. If you haven’t added this series to your pull list, get on it asap, as there is lots of entertainment awaiting.

It was a genius move to have Adams and Pasarin work on this first issue, as it felt like another significant Green Lantern issue. The issue is welcoming and does not feel weighed down by continuity from the current series or even the Green Lantern Mythos. Green Lantern launched from DC Comics’ Dawn of DC initiative and has been a thriving book with its creative team. With the most recent Fractured Spectrum, it only made sense to keep the momentum going and launch another “sister series” with DC’s All In. With this “All In” mentality, we can see the rest of the Green Lantern cast get their due, too.
Adding writer Morgan Hampton is another excellent win, as the chemistry between him and Adams is helping with this vast cast of Lanterns. That chemistry is perfectly put to the test, as we can see from the opening scene busting longtime villain Kanjar Ro. The headspace for John Stewart is terrific and hopeful as he moves forward in this new adventure. There is a nice homage to Justice League: The Animated Series episodes “In Blackest Night” parts 1 and 2. It is excellent seeing Stweart in this manner as he is a confident hero, and right now, with the reforming of the GLC, they need leadership. Jessica Cruz is still the designated head of the GLC, and we see how this impacts her life. Simon Baz is in her corner for support, so don’t fret that he won’t be around. Yet, seeing Stewart as a veteran GL still out on essential missions does the character a great justice, allowing his light to shine.

With all the Lanterns in this issue, keep an eye on Guy Gardner; his background antics are hilarious. Fernando Pasarin is joined by Oclair Albert on inks and Arif Prianto on colors to make their own Corps and present a rich issue showcasing the regality of the Green Lantern Corps. This creative team finds ways to give all Earth GLs a moment in the issue, except Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner, who have the other series to showcase their adventures. There is still room to show what Sinestro is up to, which will make for an interesting situation in future issues. This series is the perfect sum of a creative team working well and having fun together on a project that is ripe to be refreshed.
Seeing John Stewart as an enlightened hero is terrific and the perfect centerpiece of this new Green Lantern Corps series. The Green Lantern Mythos is taking off again, and keeping that momentum going forward is the best idea for another book. Having the main series creative team join up with Morgan Hampton is excellent as it is a Creative Corps working on this book. You can tell they have incredible chemistry together as their characters shine. It is the perfect time to join the Corps and get this series on your pull list, no matter how long you’ve been a Lantern fan or who your main Lantern is.
