‘Closer’ one-shot coming in September by Kieron Gillen and Steve Lieber

‘Closer’ kicks off with birds suddenly appearing, and ends with nothing less than the death of the heavens.

Acclaimed writer Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine, The Power Fantasy) is teaming up with fan-favorite artist Steve Lieber (The Fix, Jimmy Olsen) and celebrated colorist Tamra Bonvillain (Once & Future) for a haunting new one-shot titled Closer. Originally serialized across issues #7–9 of the Image! anthology, the complete story will now be available in a standalone comic this fall.

Closer kicks off with birds suddenly appearing, and ends with nothing less than the death of the heavens. Described as a cosmic horror tale you can dance to, the story is part romance, part apocalypse, and all pop single energy.

“Anyone who knows me knows I love talking about pop singles,” Gillen said. “Closer is exactly that—a quick, emotional, collaborative hit made with friends. It’s a comic you can pick up, read in one go, and feel something. A little apocalypse romance in one tight package.”

Lieber echoed the sentiment: “It was a total joy creating this weird and beautiful story alongside Kieron, Tamra, and Clayton. It’s like watching the world end to the perfect song.”

Closer (Lunar Code 0725IM293) arrives in comic book shops on Wednesday, September 3, and will also be available digitally via Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play, and more.
