Black Cat swipes the spotlight in new ongoing series and #1 covers

Coming this August, Felicia Hardy is taking a break from high-stakes heists to try something new: superheroism. In the wake of Spider-Man’s defeat by new villain Hellgate in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Black Cat is stepping into the spotlight with her own ongoing series, written by Ms. Marvel’s G. Willow Wilson and drawn by rising star Gleb Melnikov (Amazing Spider-Man). The series was first announced on May 6th.

While Felicia’s motives are anything but pure, she’s mostly defending her turf from upstart villains; her new vigilante role puts her in direct conflict with classic Spidey foes like the Lizard. But the more the city starts to see her as a hero, the harder it becomes for Felicia to keep her thief’s edge… and the attention she draws from the criminal underworld might make her regret ever trying to do the right thing.

The debut issue of Black Cat features a jaw-dropping main cover by Adam Hughes, a foil variant by Terry Dodson, and additional variants by Derrick Chew, Simone Di Meo, Peach Momoko, Jeehyung Lee, and J. Scott Campbell—whose art will be part of his upcoming Just Spectacular Collection. Chew and Lee’s covers will also be available in virgin formats.

As Wilson puts it: “Felicia decides to fight crime for entirely self-interested reasons… but being seen as a folk hero goes to her head—and that’s where the trouble starts.”
