Fans of the hit anime Reincarnated as a Sword have a reason to be excited. It was announced at Anime Expo that the adaptation of Yuu Tanaka and Llo’s light novel will return for a second season in 2026. The story follows the adventures of a young girl from the Black Cat tribe named Fran and her weapon/fighting mentor a sword named Teacher.
Producer Ryo Hino dropped many details for the recently announced season. Storywise, the plot will follow the Floating Island and Seedrun arcs from the source material. They will introduce new characters including new additions to our heroes’ party and villains with complicated pasts.
The Reincarnated as a Sword leads continue to evolve during their journey. Fran experiences psychological growth as she becomes involved in a battle for the country. Meanwhile, Teacher has leveled up as well. He becomes larger and can morph into other helpful objects such as armor, a shield, an arrow and more.
Hino also discussed how “each episode is packed with action that there is no time to breathe.” In a pre-recorded message from Shinji Ishihira, the director teased a “wilder direction.” Visually, the team used more CGI in general and utilized new camera angles to provide fresh perspectives to the action sequences. In particular, he talked about how the Seedrun arc is “crazy” with an extreme number of characters.
Despite all the changes for season two, one aspect fans can count on is the close relationship between Fran and Teacher. Hino’s favorite trait of the latter is his selflessness towards his pupil. He is so protective of Fran and is willing to do anything for her.
Reincarnated as a Sword season two arrives in 2026 on HIDIVE.
