The iconic Age of Apocalypse storyline is making a massive comeback this fall in a brand-new six-issue event, X-Men of Apocalypse, launching this September from Marvel Comics. Legendary writer Jeph Loeb, who helped craft the original 1995 crossover, teams up with Eisner-nominated artist Simone Di Meo to reignite the mutant dystopia that changed the X-Men forever.
Even more exciting? X-Men fan-favorite Joe Madureira, whose distinctive art style helped define the look of the ’90s X-books, returns to the franchise for the first time in decades. He’s drawing variant covers for every issue of the series, starting with three versions of X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1, now including a blood-splattered virgin variant and a striking black-and-white edition.
“I was literally a kid when I drew the Astonishing X-Men,” Madureira said. “Now I get to bring something new to these characters, and hopefully do justice to Simone’s explosive pages.”
The new series picks up right after the original Age of Apocalypse ended. Magneto’s team believed they’d sacrificed everything to save the multiverse—but their world didn’t vanish. Now, desperate to keep their reality alive, the X-Men of Apocalypse cross into the main Marvel Universe, where they’ll battle their mainstream counterparts in a collision of timelines and ideologies.
The series launches with X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 in September, continues in X-Men of Apocalypse #1–4 through the fall, and wraps with X-Men of Apocalypse Omega #1. Preorder Madureira’s variants now and prepare for a mutant clash decades in the making!
