The much-anticipated Post Malone’s Big Rig is out in comic shops this week, sporting a double-sized issue of bloody action and gnarly demon designs. It’s a story that’s as pedal-to-the-metal as they come, sporting an eighteen-wheeler from God and plenty of modern weaponry, while set in medieval times. It’s a crazy story only comics (and maybe B-movie grindhouse pictures) could pull off, and it’s a hell of a good time.
First and foremost, Nathan Gooden’s art is spectacular, looking even better in a primarily black and white comic. The lack of color, save for red here and there, allows his pencils to truly shine. The level of detail is hyper-realistic with strong storytelling that draws your eye across the page. The opening few pages don’t feature an eighteen-wheeler of demonic death, yet you can’t look away as an eye flops to the ground or a demon slurps it up. Every page feels dense with detail to the point where you’ll linger on the page.
As far as the story goes, the basic concept is simple enough to dive in and have a lot of fun. Demons are attacking innocent folks, and a mysterious man covered in face tattoos helps them, only to lose them all after an eighteen-wheeler falls from the sky. It gives him the opening to get in and haul ass, which is where the story really picks up. It’s the kind of action-first plot that fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise will appreciate.
Ramping up that level of action is no easy feat, but it’s pulled off with well-placed page-turns and epic moments. When our tattooed good Samaritan first puts on the trucker hat, he practically powers up like a Street Fighter character. There are multiple times in this issue where I thought of the hyper energy from the anime Redline.

Sprinkled into the story is heartfelt character writing, particularly of a young girl who claims to be a witch. Kudos to co-writer Adrian F. Wassel, who grounds things thoroughly in this way. The witch charcacter gives a harrowing backstory as to why she’s on the hunt to kill the demons. Later, another backstory is revealed, putting into question who she really is and adding another layer to her personality. Trucker is more of a blank canvas, likely to be the surrogate for the reader, though it’s still early yet.
Adding to the face pace is great demon design. There are the usual cannon fodder demons that are simple, but there are some truly horrific beasts straight out of Demon Souls. We’re talking a demon with a fleshy mouth and spiraling teeth with two humanoids grown off its head—twisted, nightmare fuel stuff.
Post Malone’s Big Rig #1 is pure comics mayhem, a wild blend of demonic horror, trucker mythos, and blood-soaked fun that delivers big action and unforgettable visuals. If you crave a heavy-metal road-trip comic that looks and feels like a lost B-movie on wheels, hop in and buckle up. This is a mix of grindhouse, metal, and monster-filled mayhem that’s built for you.
