Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Oni Press has announced that Yuletide, an upcoming horror-tinged holiday adventure comic, has already been snatched up for a film adaptation. Valhalla Entertainment, the production company behind The Walking Dead, has acquired the rights to the series before its October comic debut.
Yuletide is the brainchild of writer George Northy (Charmed, EC’s Shiver SuspenStories) and artist Rachele Aragno (Leonide the Vampire), and it promises a fast-paced mix of The Goonies, Goosebumps, and Hocus Pocus, wrapped in ancient folklore and holiday terror. Northy will pen the script for the film and co-produce alongside Valhalla’s Gale Anne Hurd and Phillip Kobylanski, and Oni’s David Steward II, Hunter Gorinson, and Jeremy Colfer.
Set in Christmas, Pennsylvania, a town obsessed with holiday cheer, Yuletide follows three teens who are more interested in the eerie roots of the season than its twinkling lights. When they uncover a mysterious artifact in the local Christmas museum, they accidentally unleash a wave of forgotten winter monsters and a centuries-old darkness. Only they hold the key to stopping it.
Northy describes the story as a metaphor for the personal “demons” we suppress during the holidays, calling it a tale about facing them head-on instead of burying them. Hurd praised the project for its rich use of global folklore and for reviving lesser-known legends that are too compelling to fade into obscurity.
Oni Press President Hunter Gorinson called Yuletide “joyously filled with heart, humor, and adventure,” and hinted that it could become a holiday favorite for years to come.
The comic itself will arrive as a three-part miniseries, with extra-sized 40-page issues launching in October and concluding just in time for the holidays in December.
Yuletide joins an impressive slate of adaptations from Oni’s library, including Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Extraction, and Atomic Blonde. Oni will share more about the series at Comic-Con International at Booth #1829 starting July 23.
