SDCC 25: The Massiveverse enters its ‘Rebuild’ era

At SDCC 2025, the Massiveverse revealed its plans for the future, including movie updates and a Spawn crossover.

The Massiveverse has been one of the best things to happen to comics in recent years. Not only is it putting a fresh spin on the superhero genre, but it’s pushing the boundaries of what a comic can do, thanks to multimedia efforts including an animated short film and a podcast. Massiveverse creators Kyle Higgins (writer and co-creator of Radiant Black and No/One), Ryan Parrott (writer and co-creator of Rogue Sun), Brian Buccellato (co-writer/co-creator of No/One) and Nick Cotton (co-writer on Rogue Sun) gathered on Friday to talk about what’s next.

Higgins started by giving a brief recap of the Massiveverse, calling it a collection of “creator-owned, contemporary superhero stories” that celebrate everything its creators love. “We go a bit outside the box with how we tell our stories,” he said, noting that each story is self-contained. When referring to the “Rebuild” storyline in Radiant Black, Higgins also noted that it referred to the Massiveverse itself since Radiant Black and Rogue Sun are now back on a monthly basis.

Parrott talked upcoming issues of Rogue Sun, including the forthcoming Sun Rogue #30, which pits former Rogue Sun Caleb against Medieval Spawn himself! Though the armored Hellspawn first appeared in Supermassive (2023), Parrott wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to follow up on that plot point. Luckily, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane was a phone call away. “Lots of chains, lots of fire, lots of swords,” Parrott quipped. “What’s not to love?” Rogue Sun is also set to feature returning villains like Hellbent, and new ones including “The Widow”. Beginning with Rogue Sun #31, there will also be a series of connecting covers by Marco Locati (Moon Man) that pays homage to Jim Lee’s iconic X-Men #1 cover, only featuring Rogue Suns in place of the mighty mutants.

Next up was the Massiveverse’s flagship title, Radiant Black. Higgins talked about the upcoming Radiant Black #36, which he called “a very special issue” that focuses on an unhoused woman named Nance who becomes the new Radiant Yellow. It also has a QR code that features a special surprise. Radiant Black #37 will pit Marshall against a privatized army, and features a “Straydient Black” variant by Stray Dogs team Tony Fleecs and Trish Forstner. Radiant Black will also have a series of connecting covers in the future, illustrated by Mondo artist Matt Taylor.

But that wasn’t the only big news concerning Radiant Black. Higgins revealed that the audiobook version of Radiant Black is slated for release later this year! Delays in recording were due to Will Friedle, who voices Marshall, falling ill, but Rider Strong, who voices Nathan, has completed his voice work. We were all treated to a snippet from the audio book that features Anne Yatco as Satomi Sone/Radiant Red. Yatco even showed up as a surprise panelist!

Higgins also revealed the remaining cast, which is stacked full of talent. Ross Marquand (Invincible, X-Men ’97) will voice the robot Colossal. Damion Poitier (The Avengers) and Kevin Porter (Batman: Dying is Easy) voice Officer Mills and Peters, the two police officers who encounter Nathan when he first becomes Radiant Black. Kaiju Tang (Berserk, Jujutsu Kaisen) voices Saitomi’s fiance Owen Fujimoto. Finally, Phil Morris (Justice League: Doom) will voice Wendell George, the original Radiant Yellow. On top of this, Higgins also announced that the second “Massive Edition” of Radiant Black is slated to come out in early 2026.

Finally, Higgins and Buccellato discussed No/One, saying that they finished the first draft of the script for the movie version. What’s more, they showed us the first page, and we all got a free code for the first digital edition of No/One as well as a free starter pack for the Massiveverse fighting card game. That’s just a sampling of what makes the Massiveverse great – you come for the comics, and stay for the expansive story.

Radiant Black, Rogue Sun and No/One are available wherever comics are sold. Inferno Girl Red: Book Two #1 goes on sale December 10, 2025.
