Continuing where Poison Ivy #34 left off, this issue finds our titular protagonist after defending Marshview from an assault by the Gotham City Police Department. Ivy and her allies take some time to regroup, unsure if the GCPD will make another attack, and discuss their options. While the battle appears to be over, Ivy doesn’t feel at peace. As she thinks to herself, “No war is ever really over, because the casualties keep piling up even after the fighting stops, leaving the survivors wondering whether it was all worth it”. Ivy appears pensive and sorrowful as she ponders the events that have led them to where they are today. Ivy is also convinced there is a traitor in her midst, as someone tipped off the GCPD to their whereabouts. Ivy promises that the traitor will “beg for death” when she is done with them. Unbeknownst to Ivy, her dear friend Janet was the one who betrayed her to the GCPD. However, Ivy still does not suspect Janet of duplicity.

Ivy’s ally, Peter Undine, suggests that they hide in the woods just in case the GCPD returns to make another attempt to arrest Ivy. She reluctantly agrees to this suggestion, and the group makes their way into the woods, where they meet up with Wendy Richardson, whom Ivy last saw in Poison Ivy #10 at a wellness retreat in California. Wendy is still alive despite being infected with the Ophiocordyceps Lamia that Ivy unleashed earlier in the series. This revelation that Wendy survived the infection leads Ivy to suspect that the lamia may have escaped containment and could still pose a danger. Once again, we see the consequences of Ivy’s actions and choices in this series having ramifications for several issues afterwards.
Next, Ivy puts Janet to bed so she can get some rest and recover from the illness that is slowly killing her; however, Ivy cannot fall asleep herself because she is thinking about all the people who depend on her. As Ivy says to herself in the issue, “I know I’m just going to disappoint them, or worse”. Feeling lost and needing someone to talk to, Ivy goes to visit her girlfriend, Harley Quinn, in Gotham City. Ivy tells Harley about the Order of the Green Knight and how she feels a sense of responsibility to the Order and doesn’t want to break them up to make Batman “happy”. Harley suggests that Ivy talk to her ex-girlfriend and the leader of the Order, Bella Garten, to try to smooth things over between them.
Ivy takes this suggestion to heart and goes to Bella to apologize; however, Bella is not ready to forgive, and attempts to turn the Order against Ivy, calling her a false prophet and a traitor. A huge fight breaks out between Ivy and Bella’s allies after someone throws a stone. Ivy breaks up the fight and tries to make them all see the bigger picture by saying that they are all fighting the same battle to save the planet. From there, Ivy makes a difficult choice to secure leadership of the Order of the Green Knight, one that she calls “a thing for which there is no forgiveness”.
Solicits for Poison Ivy #36 reveal that Ivy will work to weed out the traitor amongst her allies. Will Ivy discover the truth about Janet’s deception, and if so, how will that discovery affect her friendship with Janet? The next issue will also see Ivy in her role as the new leader of the Order of the Green Knight. How will the organization fare under Ivy’s leadership, and how will the Order serve Ivy’s mission? Either way, it seems certain that we are heading to a conflict and a confrontation between Ivy and Janet that is sure to be explosive and catastrophic.
