Nakama Press, the Mad Cave Studios imprint dedicated to bringing international comics to new audiences, will soon debut My Soul Mate, a semi-autobiographical manhua by acclaimed Hong Kong creator Wah Kee—translated into English for the very first time. Winner of the Hong Kong Arts Centre Award for Best Comic Story and featured at the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival, My Soul Mate blends an intimate look at the comics industry with a supernatural twist.
The story follows Chung Chuen Ming, a seasoned art assistant who spends his career refining other people’s work while secretly yearning to create his own. Determined to chase his dream, he quits his job to focus on his own manhua. But fate takes a strange turn when he meets novice artist Cheung Shan—someone who might just be the key to realizing his ambitions. The catch? Chung Chuen Ming has just died, and now he’s possessing Cheung Shan’s body. As they navigate life, death, and the creative process, the unlikely duo must learn to collaborate in the most unconventional way imaginable.
“As a comics production assistant for years, when I finally had the chance to publish my own comic book, I immediately set out to tell a bittersweet story about a comic artist’s trials,” Wah Kee said. “During the creation process, I rode a roller coaster of emotions—and discovered I was mirroring my protagonist’s journey, overcoming countless obstacles to finish their work. Even more thrilling, this comic is now being translated into English for readers around the world. I’m deeply grateful to Nakama Press for selecting My Soul Mate, and I hope it resonates with—and enchants—many more readers.”
With its mix of ghostly possession and artistic ambition, My Soul Mate will resonate with fans of supernatural Chinese dramas like Oh My Ghost and The Ghost Detective, meditative graphic novels such as Eleanor Davis’ Why Art, and behind-the-scenes creative stories told through a fictional lens.

My Soul Mate will be available January 20, 2026, and is now open for preorder through comic shops, booksellers, or directly from Mad Cave. For updates, follow Nakama Press and Mad Cave Studios on social media, or visit madcavestudios.com.
