Marvel Comics is marking Native American Heritage Month with a spotlight on one of its most prominent Native heroes, Echo. The character, a Cheyenne and Mexican American warrior, takes center stage in ECHO: SEEKER OF TRUTH, a special Marvel’s Voices one-shot co-written by Jimmy “Taboo” Gomez — best known as a member of the Black Eyed Peas and host of the Comics and Kicks podcast — alongside longtime collaborator B. Earl. The duo previously tackled Echo in 2023’s Daredevil & Echo miniseries and are also behind the upcoming Ultimate Hawkeye one-shot. Artist Jim Terry brings their story to life, with Echo’s co-creator David Mack contributing a striking cover.
The issue follows Echo to Los Angeles, where she races to protect her family from a dangerous new threat. Along the way, the former Avenger uncovers a startling secret about her heritage that unlocks a mysterious new power, one that will reshape her role in the Marvel Universe.
In Seeker of Truth, Echo’s journey begins when her cousin vanishes in Los Angeles. Her search leads her to Wisteria Meadows, a seemingly idyllic wellness retreat hiding sinister secrets. As she investigates a string of disappearances tied to the cult, Echo is forced to confront truths about herself that will change her forever. But behind Wisteria Meadows lurks a faceless villain with a plan more dangerous than she could have imagined.
For Taboo, revisiting the character is both personal and powerful. “As a proud Native American/Mexican storyteller, having the platform to co-write about superheroes that resonate within our Marvel Universe is what I call ‘good medicine’ and much needed to inspire our readers,” he said. “Celebrating the beauty of Echo as our hero is like painting a vibrant mural across the comic book landscape.”
B. Earl echoed that excitement, describing the story as both mythic and deeply personal. “When our editors asked us to develop a new power for her, we made sure to build it into our own mythic language that we had revealed before,” he explained. “For me this story is also an homage to L.A. I was born and raised on the East Coast but always dreamed of making my way to Hollywood… a dream that ultimately led me here, telling these incredible Marvel stories with Taboo.”
Alongside Mack’s cover, the issue will feature variant covers by Carmen Carnero and Maria Wolf. Fans can preorder ECHO: SEEKER OF TRUTH #1 now at their local comic shop.
