DC Comics has pulled the plug on its new Red Hood series, announced as a mature-readers spin-off of Batman, just one issue in. While Red Hood #1 hit stores on September 10, DC has notified retailers that orders for issues #2, #3, and any future installments are cancelled. Retailers will also be credited for all copies of issue #1, including those already sold. The future issues have already been removed from League of Comic Geeks.
Originally unveiled in July 2025, Red Hood was intended to be an ongoing monthly series, set in the main DC Universe. The plot featured Jason Todd (former Robin, now an anti-hero) alongside Helena Bertinelli (a.k.a. Huntress), relocating to Louisiana only to run into nonstop trouble.
The canceled second issue was scheduled for October 2, and issue #3 for November 12. The creative team included writer Gretchen Felker-Martin, interior artist Jeff Spokes, and cover artist Taurin Clarke.
DC hasn’t given a full, detailed explanation publicly.
When contacted for reasons behind the cancellation, DC Comics provided the following statement: “At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”
The response is likely due to Gretchen Felker-Martin’s posts on Bluesky about the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk, which have disappeared from the platform as her account has been suspended.
