Hellboy’s family feud erupts! Mike and Todd Mignola unite for ‘The Crown: A Tale of Hell’

The series brings back Gamon and Lusk, who first appeared in ‘Hellboy in Hell’ (2012), as they battle for dominance over Pandemonium.

Hell is about to get a little more crowded — and a lot more personal. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is teaming up with his brother Todd Mignola (Hellboy: The Exorcist of Vorsk) and artist Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (Our Encounters with Evil) for a fiery new two-issue miniseries, The Crown: A Tale of Hell. The story reunites the Mignola brothers not just creatively, but thematically, centering on Hellboy’s own infernal family — his brothers, his father, and his long-imprisoned mother.

Each issue will feature main covers by Johnson-Cadwell, with variant covers from Mike Mignola himself and Bruno Seelig.

According to Mike Mignola, the project began when Todd pitched him the idea of exploring Hellboy’s siblings. “It never would have occurred to me to do more with those guys,” Mike said. “But brothers writing about brothers in a complicated family dynamic? Once we got going, it was almost too easy. And fun. SO MUCH fun that I could only imagine it drawn by Warwick.”

Todd describes The Crown as “a day in the 16th-century life of Hellboy’s ‘Hell family.’” Deep within Castle Azzael, a new crown is being forged in secret for a potential king — sparking treachery and backstabbing among Hellboy’s father, uncle, and half-brothers, each vying for control of Satan’s dormant throne.

The series brings back Gamon and Lusk, who first appeared in Hellboy in Hell (2012), as they battle for dominance over Pandemonium. But when their mother returns from her century-long imprisonment with her own dark ambitions, the demonic family feud takes a deadly turn.

“I love where Todd and Mike are taking us with The Crown: A Tale of Hell,” said Johnson-Cadwell. “It’s amazing to return to Mike’s world, this time inside the Hellboy universe itself, to draw these iconic characters — and even introduce someone entirely new.”

The Crown: A Tale of Hell #1 arrives February 11, 2026, from Dark Horse Comics.
