Marvel is celebrating Black History Month with a sweeping tribute across the Star Wars line, unveiling a pair of connecting variant covers by acclaimed artist Taurin Clarke. The artwork will appear on Star Wars #10, an upcoming issue set in the post-Return of the Jedi era from writer Alex Segura and artist Luke Ross; and Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, a new one-shot co-written by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best with Marc Guggenheim, featuring art by Kieran McKeown and Laura Braga. The special issue also brings Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq, another fan-favorite Best portrays across Star Wars media, into the spotlight.
In a cinematic, widescreen style, Clarke unites Black characters from across the franchise’s history. The piece includes Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu, Saw Gerrera, Finn, and Jannah; Moff Gideon, Greef Karga, and Kelleran Beq from The Mandalorian; Cere Junda from the Star Wars Jedi game series; High Republic standouts Keeve Trennis and Lula Talisola; and Marvel’s own Sana Starros.
“There’s something inherently cool knowing that somewhere, this book might be someone’s first introduction to Star Wars,” said Clarke. “Maybe seeing characters that look like them (drawn by an artist who looks like them) might even inspire some other kid to be creative. That kind of representation means a lot to me.”
Here’s what’s arriving in February:
