‘WondLa’ season 3: Cadmus Pryde sees the game is over

Alan Tudyk talks about the third season of WondLa.

The third season of WondLa recently closed the book on the animated television adaptation of Tony DiTerlizzi’s novel series. Amongst all the action during the epic battle between humans and aliens, the show also delivers moving intimate moments between characters.

One such scene occurs in the fifth episode entitled “Lost.” As New Attica is literally crumbling around him, the leader of the city, Cadmus Pryde, has one last interaction with protagonist Eva Nine. We see a broken man who has already given up. However, he passes on the legacy of humanity to the hero to aid her on her quest. We spoke with voice actor Alan Tudyk about what he thought was going through his character’s head at the moment.

“He’s doing the best he can in a very high stakes moment and his options are limited and his way forward is narrowing,” he said. “We’re getting close to the end of it. I don’t know, in those moments, he’s still trying to do the right thing…I think people who do things that are for the greater good even though they are wrong, I think that they are trying. At least some place in their head they are trying to be good. They are trying to do the right thing but they keep making concessions along the way and they can get lost. It’s like survival, you keep going. But if you’re actually in a situation where you can see that the game is over, I think those choices become more obvious like what is the right choice. The good choice so that was what he was doing.”

Tudyk reflected upon his experience on all three seasons of WondLa. Despite his involvement as a talent for the series, he likes the viewing experience more.

He said, “You know for me, my favorite part about this project because it’s been going on for a while, has been watching it. Just been enjoying like anyone else who turns on Apple TV and presses play. I’ve been enjoying watching the animation, the production quality of it, and the storytelling. I love these big epic adventures that wrestle with huge themes like environment versus technology. What does it mean to survive as a race? What level do you need? You know, I think Cadmus got a little lost there. I’ve just been enjoying it as a viewer.”
