Skybound and Image Comics have teamed up once again with Hasbro to make Free Comic Book Day 2026 a must-visit event, announcing the Energon Universe Special 2026, set to release on Saturday, May 2. Designed as both an easy entry point for new readers and a major moment for longtime fans, the special promises big developments across Hasbro’s interconnected comic universe.
This marks the biggest year yet for the Energon Universe, with the FCBD issue delivering four all-new stories spanning the worlds of Transformers, G.I. Joe, Void Rivals, and more. The lineup features top-tier talent, including Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), Joshua Williamson (Duke, Superman), and other major creators, with art from Jason Howard (Transformers, Super Dinosaur), Conor Hughes (Void Rivals, White Ash), and more.
Executive Editor Ben Abernathy shared his excitement about the ambitious scope of the special:
“Free Comic Book Day is such an exciting holiday every year,” opines Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. “To have FOUR exciting stories by some of the best creators in the business is a dream come true!”
The Energon Universe represents the centerpiece of Hasbro and Skybound’s ongoing collaboration, uniting Transformers and G.I. Joe in a shared comic-book continuity for the first time in a bold new era. The line currently includes Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman, Andrei Bressan, and Patricio Delpeche; the two-time Eisner Award–winning Transformers by Kirkman, Dan Mora, and Mike Spicer; and G.I. Joe by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire.
With secrets building toward major answers across these legendary franchises, the Energon Universe Special 2026 aims to deliver must-see moments in every story—making this Free Comic Book Day one fans won’t want to miss.
