Your next trip to Black Spire Outpost is about to feel very different.
Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is expanding its storytelling this spring, bringing the original trilogy into the heart of Batuu for the first time. Starting April 29, guests will begin seeing new story elements featuring icons like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca, alongside fresh food and merchandise tied to this updated era of the land.
Marvel Comics is helping tell the story behind this shift with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire, a new five-issue comic series launching in April. The series is written by Ethan Sacks, who previously chronicled Galaxy’s Edge in Marvel’s original 2019 tie-in, and features art by Jethro Morales and Roi Mercado.
The story sends Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca to Batuu on a secret mission for critical intelligence—only for the trio to uncover a dangerous relic that puts them directly in the Empire’s crosshairs.
“We’re returning to Batuu and we’re bringing the biggest stars in the Star Wars galaxy with us,” Sacks said. “A major new era is dawning at Galaxy’s Edge and consider Echoes of the Empire a Holocron that reveals the secret story behind that experience. It’s going to be epic and Jedi (drawing) Masters Roi Mercado and Jethro are making sure every page looks amazing.”
The series will feature a main cover by Phil Noto, with Leinil Francis Yu providing character spotlight variant covers across the run. Marvel will also roll out E.M. Gist’s Mandalorian & Grogu variant covers on select Star Wars titles in April and May to celebrate the upcoming film.
Fans can preorder Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire #1 now at their local comic shop.
