Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, have revealed the full connecting variant cover lineup for Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera #1, illustrated by acclaimed horror artist Anwita Citriya (Creepshow, The Big Burn). The first issue of this bold new reimagining arrives in comic shops on February 25, 2026.
The series is crafted by a powerhouse creative team, with writing by Tyler Boss (You’ll Do Bad Things) and art by Martin Simmonds (Universal Monsters: Dracula, The Department of Truth). Citriya’s connecting variant covers span the entire limited series, spotlighting Christine, the Phantom himself, and the haunting secrets lurking behind the curtain of the Paris Opera House.
“I grew up watching The Phantom of the Opera, so receiving this offer felt truly surreal,” said Citriya. “It’s an incredible honor to illustrate the covers for such an iconic and much beloved 1925 film.”
In the story, a young soprano named Christine sees her rising career thrown into turmoil when a wave of violent crimes rocks the Paris Opera House. As performances continue under mounting tension, Christine begins hearing a mysterious voice whispering from the shadows. When an old friend returns to investigate the attacks, she’s drawn deeper into a terrifying truth—and into the orbit of the man known as the Phantom of the Opera.
In addition to Citriya’s 1:10 incentive connecting variant, Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera #1 will feature:
- A main cover by Martin Simmonds
- An open-to-order variant
- A 1:25 “classic horror” incentive by Joshua Middleton
- A 1:50 incentive by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell
- A 1:75 incentive by David Talaski
- A 1:100 foil incentive by Baldemar Rivas
- A blank sketch cover
- A mask cover by Andrea Milana and Andres Juarez
Phantom of the Opera marks the sixth launch in Skybound’s celebrated Universal Monsters line, following Universal Monsters: Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Frankenstein, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man. The line will continue with additional limited series pairing top comics creators with some of pop culture’s most iconic monsters.
