Today, Marvel Comics dropped a mysterious teaser for DNX, a new event series set to launch this September from Jed MacKay and Federico Vicentini. Danger looms over the X-Men, or maybe it’s all of Earth?
The teaser image, illustrated by Vicentini, features a striking biohazard-style symbol paired with the ominous tagline: “EVOLUTION IS CONTAGIOUS.” No additional details were provided, but the phrasing alone strongly suggests a story rooted in mutation, transformation, and the potential dangers of both.
MacKay, who has quickly become one of Marvel’s go-to architects for major storylines, is coming off high-profile work on the X-Men line as well as the vampire-centric crossover Blood Hunt. Given Vicentini’s kinetic, high-impact visuals, this is likely going to be a high-action series.

Evolution takes a darker turn
The phrase “evolution is contagious” feels especially loaded in the context of the X-Men mythos, where mutation has long been framed as both a gift and a societal flashpoint. Turning that concept into something transmissible introduces a chilling wrinkle. Is this a new form of mutation? A weaponized gene? Or something far worse spreading beyond control? Are regular non-mutants going to turn into mutants?
The biohazard imagery leans heavily into that uncertainty, evoking themes of outbreak, quarantine, and transformation. It also hints that whatever DNX represents, it may not be contained to a single group or location.
What comes next
For now, Marvel is keeping details tightly under wraps, with a full announcement promised next week. Given the creative team and the scale implied by the teaser, DNX is already shaping up to be one of the publisher’s key fall events.
If nothing else, Marvel has made one thing clear: whatever evolution looks like in the months ahead, it’s not staying contained.
