Hellboy’s favorite hero is back, and this time she’s taking center stage.
Today, AIPT can exclusively reveal a first look at Young Hellboy: Thrilling Sky Adventures #1, the new four-issue miniseries from Mike Mignola, Thomas E. Sniegoski, and Craig Rousseau. The series spins out of Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land and puts the spotlight on Scarlett Santiago, the swashbuckling Sky Devil who captured Hellboy’s imagination.
If you remember her debut, Scarlett was already larger than life. Now, readers get to see why.
Thrilling Sky Adventures is framed as a comic within a comic, diving into the pulp-inspired exploits of Scarlett Santiago as she faces the consequences of her growing legend. She has taken down plenty of villains, but that success comes with a cost. With enemies closing in, Scarlett is forced to go on the offensive, teaming up with a mysterious new ally known as the Ghost Leopard.
From there, things escalate quickly.
This preview teases a story packed with gangsters, monsters, and airborne chaos, leaning fully into the pulpy tone that makes the Young Hellboy line so fun. It also expands the world in a meaningful way, digging into Scarlett’s past while giving Hellboy a front-row seat as her biggest fan.
“Since wrapping up Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land, I’d been thinking about Scarlett Santiago, the Sky Devil, and how much we still didn’t know about her past adventures,” said Sniegoski. “I was hoping that there would be a way to tell some of Sky Devil’s earlier exploits, and with Thrilling Sky Adventures, we’re getting to do just that… I can’t wait for folks to be immersed in its pulpy goodness!”
Artist Craig Rousseau echoed that excitement, highlighting just how big this series gets. “Having the opportunity to work on more Young Hellboy is an absolute treat. It’s fun working with some of my all time favorite creative partners to expand on the story of Scarlett Santiago, Sky Devil and introduce The Ghost Leopard. Every script gets bigger and crazier… gangsters, biplanes, wild animals, crazy monsters and so much more.”
Visually, Rousseau and colorist Chris O’Halloran bring a vibrant, kinetic energy to the page, capturing the feel of classic adventure comics while keeping things fresh and dynamic. It’s the kind of book that feels tailor-made for readers who love fast-paced storytelling with a sense of wonder.
Each issue will feature covers by Rousseau, with Young Hellboy: Thrilling Sky Adventures #1 also including a variant cover by David Hitchcock and a blank sketch variant.
