DC has announced Batman & Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos, a new 12-issue monthly series from Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, set to launch August 12, 2026. The series continues the story of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson following their earlier Year One run, digging deeper into the early days of the Dynamic Duo.
Batman and Robin are already established as a crime-fighting team in Gotham, but new trouble is brewing. A group of street kids begins causing chaos across the city, forcing the duo to investigate who is behind it and what is driving them. The mystery points to a larger force pulling the strings, setting up a new challenge for both heroes.
Waid shared his excitement about continuing the story, noting how much material he and Samnee developed while working together. “One of the great things about talking story with Chris is that we generally end up with way more than we can actually fit in the books—that’s how excited both of us get when we explore Batman and Robin’s early days,” he said. “This is Chris’s dream job, and I could write younger Bruce and Dick forever. Hence Dynamic Duos—Bruce and Dick and Catwoman and a brand-new character who may or may not choose to be Selina Kyle’s sidekick.”

Samnee echoed that enthusiasm, pointing to the creative momentum behind the new series. “Mark is 100 percent right,” Samnee said. “Our first 12 issues of Year One felt like the exact book I’d been wanting to make since I was a kid. And to be able to make it with this amazing team really is like catching lightning in a bottle.” He also praised collaborators Mat Lopes and Clayton Cowles for elevating the work throughout.
A key element of the new story is Catwoman’s role in complicating the partnership between Bruce and Dick. Waid explained that while Year One focused on the pair learning to live and work together, this next chapter introduces tension. “Dick’s still too young to understand why Batman doesn’t treat her like every other Gotham criminal, while Catwoman sees this little Robin punk as an obstacle to overcome if she wants to land her next big score…which might involve getting close to Batman! And chaos ensues.”
The series features interior art and the main cover by Samnee, with colors by Lopes and lettering by Cowles. The debut issue will also include variant covers by Marc Silvestri, Dustin Nguyen, and Hayden Sherman, along with a special anniversary variant by Greg Capullo.
