Dark Horse shuts down TFAW stores as major company shake-up expands into games and entertainment

Dark Horse says the latest restructuring is intended to sharpen its focus on publishing, collectibles, and creator partnerships while expanding opportunities in film, television, and interactive media.

Dark Horse Comics has announced several major business changes as part of a broader effort to restructure operations and strengthen collaboration across Fellowship Entertainment.

One of the biggest changes involves the closure of all three Things From Another World retail stores. The two Oregon locations are set to close on June 30, 2026, while the California location will remain open until September 30, 2026. The company acknowledged the impact the closures will have on employees and said it plans to support affected staff throughout the transition.

It’s hard not to see this move happening due to longtime Dark Horse CEO Mike Richardson’s exit in March.

On the entertainment side, Dark Horse says Dark Horse Entertainment is refocusing its efforts around creators, with an emphasis on giving writers, artists, and storytellers more support and opportunities across film and television projects. The company described the move as a renewed investment in the creative voices that define the Dark Horse brand.

Dark Horse also listed a new initiative called Dark Horse Games, which will focus on adapting the publisher’s catalog into interactive entertainment. According to the announcement, the division will work with creators to expand their worlds into video games and related media while maintaining the independent and creator-driven philosophy the publisher has long promoted.

The move marks a renewed push into gaming for the company. Back in 2021, Dark Horse first announced a gaming and digital division under the same name, with plans to collaborate on original AAA titles and adaptations based on franchises like Hellboy, Sin City, The Umbrella Academy, and Usagi Yojimbo. At the time, founder Mike Richardson said the company saw gaming as a natural expansion of its publishing and entertainment efforts.

Dark Horse says the latest restructuring is intended to sharpen its focus on publishing, collectibles, and creator partnerships while expanding opportunities in film, television, and interactive media.
