A major villain dies in Uncanny X-Men #16, but they are not who we thought they were

You won’t believe which ’90s supervillain has been hiding in plain sight.

Major spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

Things are heating up in Uncanny X-Men thanks to Cyclops and Wolverine taking on the Mutant Liberation Front, fighting Hope, and now even Captain America is involved. In the latest issue out today, lives are literally being lost.

Midway through Uncanny X-Men #16, Magneto, Toad, Juggernaut, and other villains are on the attack and calling themselves the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Cyclops shows up to stop them and in the midst of battle, Karma realizes Magneto isn’t who he says he is, or at least not 100%.

But wait, he’s using magnetism powers, right? X-Men fans of the ’90s will remember Magneto was once cloned and that character took up the name Joseph. The last we saw of Joseph was in 2011 when Magneto defeated him and put him in the X-Brig on Utopia in the series Magneto: Not a Hero.

This makes sense, given the real Magneto is currently imprisoned (one might say) in the Age of X-Man event. Well, Cyclops has done well enough to give characters a second chance. Heck, he even let Hope join him and she took out his eye an issue ago…

Off with his head! It appears the once beloved Magneto clone Joseph is no longer with us.
