Why does this matter?
I don’t exactly know what is going on with this cover, but I do know Weapon H is going to kick some Brood ass. Roxxon is taking him to task, but as we learn in this issue, it’s not to kill him. Greg Pak is doing, in my opinion, the impossible: he’s taking a super ’90s idea like making a Hulkverine and making it actually readable.
Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

This issue mixes Weapon H fighting beasties with flashbacks with his wife in a way that builds towards the inevitable. Last issue we learned an Acanti Skywhale was hot on Weapon H’s heels which is not something you think about or say very often. Pak and artist Cory Smith throw a hell of a lot of crazy at Weapon H in this issue and it’s so much fun. Just wait till you see what Weapon H does to the Skywhale.
This issue gives readers a bit more to go on as far as the Roxxon leader who may or may not be saving the world by seeking Weapon H, but boy does he give off evil vibes. Pak has him discuss Weapon H with an underlying message, and the two give the impression Roxxon isn’t pure evil, but they aren’t good either. This leader of Roxxon also may or may not have a connection to Weapon H given their red eyes, but I’m sure a confrontation will occur eventually.
Smith draws some great flying sharks, dude. Weapon H goes full tilt and the blood really flows. It’s a reminder how far violence has come in comics, even if Weapon H is carving up Brood-dogs. The Skywhale amazingly doesn’t look silly, but the right amount of freaky and weird. That helps make this strange army come off as fresh and a tiny bit fun too.
Being a Hulkvarine doesn’t seem all bad.
It can’t be perfect can it?
The bad guys reflect on how Weapon H has special fight training–not the first time this has been referenced–but I don’t see it. It’s not clear enough he’s not doing anything special and instead looks like he’s lunging and slashing in no special way.

Aside from this, there isn’t a ton of substance to the flashbacks. We already know Weapon H loves his wife and she loves him and that is reaffirmed in the flashbacks. Do we need these scenes? They build towards the inevitable turn at the end, so not really.
Oh, the cover is also strange and misleading. What the heck?!
Is it good?
A good issue that’s all about Hulkverine fighting flying sharks and punching whales. Read that sentence back and you’ll know whether or not you need to buy this!
