Jeff Bridges teases a new ‘The Big Lebowski’ project and fans are losing their minds

The Dude abides…again?!

Jeff Bridges is an accomplished actor, singer, producer and has been nominated for seven academy awards, including a win for best actor in Crazy Heart. It goes without saying that the man has had an incredible career across a wide array of characters, but perhaps none of his roles are more iconic or more beloved than that of Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski in The Big Lebowski.

The film has a well known cult following and there’s even yearly Lebowski Fests around the country that include a screening of the film, bowling, and of course, White Russians. So, when Jeff Bridges sent out a tweet Thursday morning captioned “Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned.” along with a video of himself back in character as His Dudeness, Duder, or El Duderino — people started losing their damn minds (myself included), just check the replies to his tweet and you’ll see what I mean.

Take a look for yourself below:

In the video we see The Dude walking into a bar to the tune of Bob Dylan’s “The Man in Me,” he chuckles to himself, smiles to the camera and walks into the crowd. The scene then shifts to a tumbleweed blowing across the street, and after passing we see the date 2.3.19 appear. February 3, 2019 is of course the same day as the Super Bowl, so it’s almost a guarantee that we see The Dude on the night of the big game during one of the insanely pricey commercial breaks. The real question is in what capacity?

If I’m being honest with myself this feels very similar to last year’s Danny McBride Crocodile Dundee faux remake, that turned out to be an attempt by Australia to attract more tourists. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for this to be something larger than that. We know the Coen Brothers’ (the films creators) have been working with Netflix, so it’s possible we see a sequel announced via a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl. Don’t give up hope just yet fellow Lebowski fans.

In the mean time, f*ck it dude, let’s go bowling.
