First look at DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes’ costumes

Ryan Sook designed the new Legion of Super-Heroes.

Yesterday DC announced the long awaited return of the Legion of Super-Heroes that begins this September in a two-part special prelude that kicks off with Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #1.

Brian Michael Bendis will work with a slew of superstar artists on the two-part prelude series, including Jim Lee, Dustin Nguyen, Nicole Scott, and Andrea Sorrentino, to explore several of DC’s future timelines that ultimately culminate in the start of a monthly ongoing Legion of Super-Heroes series.

Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, the Legion made their first appearance all the way back in Adventure Comics #247 in April 1958. They were presented as a group of super heroes living in the 30th and 31st centuries of the DC Universe. Since that time the team has gone through several iterations and two major reboots.

Once Millennium has concluded, artist Ryan Sook will be working will Bendis on the new ongoing Legion of Super-Heroes series. DC has released six of Sook’s character designs, which include the founding trio of Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, and Saturn Girl. Also present are Brainiac 5, Chameleon Boy, and Shadow Lass. For the most part, all of the characters have received slight alterations but are by-and-large easily recognizable. Chameleon Boy being perhaps the only exception, as he received a substantial number of changes.
