AIPT will continue some of its planned coverage of SXSW. We have been in contact with creators and their representatives in order to continue to give films coverage. We will respect all embargoes and work to give these films and our readers the coverage we had planned.
Breaking into your mom’s house at the crack of dawn with your Mariachi band sounds like a bad idea. However, it’s a pretty good one if it’s Mother’s Day and your band is there to serenade her. Dia de la Madre is a heart warming film that celebrates the culture and traditions of Latinx Mother’s Day.
Starring the Mariachi Corazon de Oro of the Mariachi Academy of New England, the children in full Mariachi attire and makeup pile up in a van and go from house to house. In just five minutes, the audience is immersed in the surprise of the moment as bedraggled mother’s wake up to discover a group of children singing to them. The film captures the emotion and tradition between generations as each mother is presented with her gift.
Directed by Ashley Brandon and Dennis Hohne, and produced by Nevo Shinaar, Dia de la Madre is a delightful short film that celebrates mothers and music.
