Vince McMahon’s not having a great month. Earlier this week, an anonymous employee asked the Florida government to shut down TV tapings for fear of their personal health. Now, according to The Athletic, his Alpha Entertainment company is being sued by former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck for wrongful termination.
While Vince McMahon largely funded the XFL reboot, Oliver Luck was the public face of the brand. Unfortunately, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alpha Entertainment, the parent company of the XFL, abruptly filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week. This came as a surprise to most, apparently including Oliver Luck.
The lawsuit is heavily redacted, but reads at one point, “Despite fulfilling his obligations as Commissioner and CEO since May 30, 2018, Mr. Luck was wrongfully terminated by Alpha Entertainment LLC (“Alpha”), an affiliate of Defendant, on April 9, 2020. Thus, Alpha has repudiated Mr. Luck’s employment agreement. Mr. Luck brings this action for breach of contract and declaratory judgment against McMahon.”
