Zeb Wells and Dylan Burnett wrap up their Ant-Man story arc this week and it’s an excellent climactic finale. The last issue set up the finale well, as Ant-Man and his daughter Stinger face a threat to all of humanity in the Savage Land. If you haven’t picked this up, know Wells is writing a great father-daughter story and Burnett is doing an amazing show showing how awesome insects can be.
This issue is framed well, setting things up for the final showdown as Scott and his daughter Cassie face the impossible. Wells doesn’t let us forget Cassie is a fighter and a great hero, and yet Scott can’t go into battle with her as he doesn’t have flying abilities or Pym Particles. Unless…there’s another option. Wells reveals something about the relationship of insects and Scott that’s quite endearing and it’s a well-earned turn.

Much of this book is a showdown for the ages as Cassie faces off against an insurmountable foe. There are fun turns I could easily see work well in a film, as the scripting is quite cinematic. There is a Voltron element that’s quite cool too and it’s incredibly heroic what Scott and Cassie pull off.
The art by Burnett is fabulous, with great color by Mike Spicer, and I found myself falling in love with this wacky, bright, insane insect-laden world. The bad guy is a good combo of gross and technological that helps set up the stakes while reminding us he’s just a bug. The ending is fabulous thanks to the touching imagery and you gotta love how Burnett renders the surprise finale villain. The visuals remind us how Ant-Man’s world is so very different from the usual superheroes. Cory Petit’s letters are also great with a striking visual style to distinguish between the characters.
I had a blast with this finale as it reminds us Scott and Cassie only got closer as heroes. The villain is epic and it takes epic love and courage to take him down. This will give you the warm and fuzzies you want when reading a comic with your kiddo.
