DC Comics drops Cameron Stewart series amid sexual misconduct accusations

Allegations of misconduct and grooming continue and some action appears to have been taken.

Bleeding Cool reported earlier today DC Comics has withdrawn an unannounced project Cameron Stewart was working on as a result of the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him. The allegations circulated Twitter yesterday and involve Stewart grooming young women entering the comics industry.

This report came a few hours after Martin Morazzo publically announced Stewart was set to draw a variant cover for horror comic series Ice Cream Man #20. Then, a few hours later, Morazzo revealed the cover that would be replacing Stewart’s cover.

The decision was sparked by several women coming forward on Twitter alleging misconduct and grooming by creators which has taken place over many years in the comics industry. Over the last 48 hours, many have taken to Twitter to voice their concern around this ever-growing problem in the comic book industry.

These women, remaining nameless to protect their identity without written permission to share them, corroborated these claims. While Stewart has set his Twitter to private since the accusation, there has been an outcry for the industry to do better and it appears some publishers are listening.

Stewart is best known for his contributions in creating the new Batgirl costume redesign and work on creator-owned Image Comics series Motor Crush. We’ll continue to update this story with any new developments occur.
