Everybody knows the most famous maneuver–or is it a fight move–in X-Men and that’s the fastball special. Traditionally, it’s between Wolverine and Colossus but it can really work with any larger characters throwing smaller characters.

Might I argue in X-Men #11, out today, there’s an even more badass move revealed albeit a little trickier to pull off. That’s because it takes three specific characters to pull off.
This issue takes place during the events of Empyre and the Cotati are attacking Krakoa directly. Many of the most powerful mutants are spread out but the island has Magneto to counter-attack. As the battle gets worse, Magneto is asked to join in.

After a bit of a wandering gaze from Magik, Magneto storms the battlefield like a general. Quickly, he’s ordering folks around and communicating with two key mutants via the Stepford Cuckoos. They are Iceman and Magma.

It appears Magneto has been planning this maneuver using Iceman and Magma for some time. In the next panel, he seeks out Magma to determine if a lava flow was found.

The plan? The flow of lava would be jettisoned by Magma–her powers include the ability to generate and control lava–and then cooled by Iceman. Sounds exciting.

Okay, the “be a good boy” is a bit much, but you get the picture. Utilizing three mutants, writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Lienil Francis Yu, have established an even more impressive fight move than the fastball special.
Following that, you can imagine what Magneto did next.

What should this maneuver be called? The Iron Spike Storm, the Magma Knife Thrust, or maybe the Lava Ice Trio? Either way, it’s an awesome example of how multiple mutants can combine their forces to be even more dangerous against foes.
