The world of Exquisite Corpses is about to get even stranger.
Courtesy of Tiny Onion, AIPT can exclusively reveal two previously unseen covers for Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1, including Michael Walsh’s polybag variant and the series’ mysterious “Stealth” cover, which also marks a first for Tiny Onion.
Launching in July, Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy is the first spinoff series from the breakout horror franchise. Written by Tyler Boss and illustrated by Dylan Burnett, the five-issue miniseries digs into the twisted origins of Rascal Randy, the bunny-mascot killer who quickly became one of the most memorable characters in the original series.
While readers have already seen several covers for the debut issue, Cover C by Michael Walsh has remained under wraps until now. The stunning illustration will be released as a special polybagged edition and includes a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game, the upcoming tabletop project that recently launched on Kickstarter.
Walsh’s cover leans fully into the eerie charm that has made Rascal Randy such a fan favorite, giving collectors another incentive to hunt down what is already shaping up to be one of the summer’s hottest horror launches.
Perhaps even more surprising is Cover E, the previously unannounced Stealth variant.
Rather than an illustration, the Stealth cover becomes the first photo cover ever produced by Tiny Onion. The image showcases the custom-built Rascal Randy mascot costume created by Tiny Onion for convention appearances and fan events, including C2E2, where attendees had the chance to meet the oversized rabbit mascot and, depending on their luck, maybe even get gently strangled by him. We can only hope.
The cover was created by UFO, the new creative agency and production company founded by Jesse Gouldsbury. UFO has become an increasingly important creative partner for Tiny Onion, contributing to promotional videos and projects, including the recent Exquisite Corpses: The Game trailer.
The cover was photographed by Braith Miller, with art direction by Jesse Gouldsbury.
The reveal further underscores how quickly Exquisite Corpses has grown beyond the comic page. What began as a horror comic has expanded into a larger multimedia franchise that now includes multiple spinoffs, a card game, a planned feature film adaptation, and a second season already in development.
The new series turns its attention to the mythology behind Rascal Randy, a character whose identity extends far beyond the person wearing the costume.
Set in Aurora Springs, New York, the story explores the birthplace of the mascot itself. Before becoming one of the deadliest killers in the world of Exquisite Corpses, Rascal Randy was intended to be a beloved animated icon. Somewhere along the way, greed, tragedy, and violence transformed that dream into a nightmare.
“From the moment I saw the full cast of killers for Exquisite Corpses, I, like most discerning readers, knew Randy would be the winner of the first season’s game,” said Boss. “Now while I still can’t say whether we’ve been proven correct or not, I can say the story Dylan and I have created for everyone’s favorite furry fiend is as sweet and cuddly as a porcupine.”
Burnett added, “Bullies, homework, crushes, solving a string of brutal and bizarre murders perpetrated by a weirdo in a giant rabbit costume… Ah, to be young again.”
The debut issue features an extensive lineup of covers:
Cover A by Dylan Burnett
Cover B by Tyler Boss
Cover C by Michael Walsh (polybag variant with collectible trading card)
Cover D Blank Sketch Cover
Cover E Stealth Photo Variant
Cover F 1:25 Incentive by Javier Pulido
Cover G 1:50 Incentive by Riley Rossmo
Cover H 1:100 Incentive by Brett Bean
With a killer mascot, a collectible card variant, and Tiny Onion’s first-ever photo cover, Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1 is already proving that the franchise’s most unsettling character is more than capable of carrying his own spotlight.
