Following the cult success of Where Wolf, writer Robert Saucedo, artist and colorist Debora Lancianese, and Harvey Award-winning letterer Jack Morelli are back with Curse of the Where Wolf, an all-new horror-comedy graphic novel. Ahead of its August release, AIPT can exclusively reveal a preview of the next chapter in Larry Chaney’s supernatural misadventures.
Originally debuting as a black-and-white webcomic through Fangoria before being collected by Encyclopocalypse Publications in 2023, Where Wolf quickly earned a devoted following thanks to its blend of creature-feature horror, sharp comedy, and distinctly Texan weirdness. The property has also attracted Hollywood attention with an active film and television option from producers Charles Horak and James Fino of Starburns Industries.
The sequel picks up with Larry still struggling to accept his fate.
Reporter Larry Chaney dreamed of becoming a hero. Instead, he became a werewolf. As he battles an ever-growing hunger and struggles to control his monstrous instincts, Larry searches desperately for a cure before the curse completely consumes him.
According to Saucedo, the sequel gave him an opportunity to push the concept much further than the original.
“With Where Wolf, I wanted to tell a whodunit set in a furry convention, so the story was pretty contained within a very specific setting and genre,” Saucedo said. “With Curse of the Where Wolf, I wanted to celebrate everything I love about the possibility of comic books.”
While readers can expect plenty of horror and comedy, Saucedo says the emotional core became just as important.
“Curse of the Where Wolf is a funny book, in every sense of the phrase, but it’s also an earnest look at a person’s struggle to become a better version of themselves, especially when the alternative is to become a literal monster.”
He also praised his collaborators, calling Lancianese “a master of comedy” whose expressive artwork gives every character warmth and personality, while describing Morelli as “an industry legend.”
The new graphic novel blends monster movie thrills with heartfelt character moments, drawing inspiration from everything from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Dungeon Crawler Carl to What We Do in the Shadows and King of the Hill.
