We’ve sadly come to the end of yet another epic chapter in Dead Body Road: Bad Blood #6. Bree Hale, the story’s main protagonist, has gone to hell and back to stop a lunatic crime boss named Monk from killing her brother, Hunter Hale. The last issue saw Bree barely escape the wrath of Monk and flee the scene in a red Chevy Blazer. But unbeknownst to her, the car has a GPS that Monk can trace. Will Bree lead Monk straight to her brother or will she finally end this nightmare once and for all?
Dead Body Road #6 is an all-bets-are-off, guns-blazing showdown with an ending you won’t see coming. Benjamin Tiesma’s awesome usage of motion lines and back and forth action kick things off to a great emotional start. Bree is finally reunited with her troublemaking brother Hale but the reunion is cut very short by the arrival of Monk. For most of the issue, Monk reminds you of the T-1000 from Terminator 2 as he takes a licking and just keeps on coming for Hunter. It all plays out very well and has the type of ending that will divide fans as to whether or not justice was truly served.
As for the script, Justin Jordan goes deep in terms of emotion. Whereas the first Dead Body Road series was revenge-driven, this one touches more on redemption, letting go of the past, and making amends. Together with Tiesma’s art, Jordan tugs on your heartstrings and doesn’t let up until the ride is over. Character-wise, the stakes are evenly high for both the good and bad guys. As the reader, things are set up in a way to make you ultimately decide who is right or wrong as you’re reading the story.
Dead Body Road: Bad Blood #6 is violent, bloody, and a real tearjerker. It has great pacing, decent transitions, and some incredible panel layouts.
