Other than the finals, “Restaurant Wars” is the big event for each season of Top Chef. This year would be different because due to the pandemic, they couldn’t invite a hundred diners to sample both restaurants. Instead, they had a chef’s table for the judges and the regular set of former contestants as diners. This provided a more intimate setting since the guests could see into the kitchen and the chefs served as the waitstaff.
The two teams were determined by a coin flip. On one side was Kokoson, a kaiseki dinner with a Latin spin consisting of Shota, Jamie, Byron, and Maria. On the other was Penny, which focused on seafood of the Pacific Northwest. Gabe, Dawn, Chris, and Sarah made up this team. From watching the episode, there was a clear winner even before judges’ table so the only real drama was who would be eliminated.
