The life and death of X-Men in the week of June 30, 2021

There was resurrection and death in X-Men comics ‘Cable’ #11 and ‘X-Factor’ #10 this week.

Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

It was a big week for life and death in the two X-Men comics which included Cable #11 and X-Factor #10. As we all know by now the Marvel mutants can’t die. There are certainly some special cases but for the most part, mutants are resurrected by “The Five” (Goldballs, Eva Bell, Elixir, Proteus, and Hope Summers) after they pass on. This week in X-Men comics there is a rebirth, but there’s also death. In a way, there are scales to manage it seems and while Cable #11 gave us life, X-Factor #10 took it away.

While “The Five” can bring anyone back that doesn’t mean resurrection is speedy as seen in Cable #11 out this week. Earlier in the issue, Hope Summers asks what the council will decide even with millions of mutants left to resurrect.

The decision is made off-page and we soon discover old Cable is back!

This lets Hope have a nice moment with her dad. That’s life returning to Krakoa this week.

The death comes in X-Factor #10 comes at the very end. In fact, death is rather important to The Trial of Magneto which will focus on Magneto determining who killed…

The Scarlet Witch! Who killed her is going to be a big mystery although one clue might be the marks on her neck in the above image. In the final shot of Wanda Maximoff however, there doesn’t seem to be any new clues.

The scales of life and death were balanced this week and both were filled with drama. I highly recommend you read the entirety of Cable #11 to further understand the implications of old-man Cable’s return. For more on Cable #11, read our review.

Meanwhile, The Trial of Magneto kicks off on August 18th and it’s there we’ll find out who killed Scarlet Witch.
