On Monday, Sony Pictures announced that they will be moving the theatrical release of their upcoming Morbius film from January 28 to April 1 of this year. The decision was made amid concerns over skyrocketing COVID-19 numbers as the Omicron variant begins to get a foothold in the United States.

Morbius was originally slated to have its theatrical premiere in 2020. Since then, the film has been delayed multiple times.
A new trailer in November followed by the huge of success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (which hinted at its own ties to the Marvel Multiverse) had people unexpectedly hyped about this movie featuring a minor villain/anti-hero from the Spider-Man mythos–myself included. If there was ever a perfect time for Morbius to hit theaters, it’s right now.
Sadly, it appears that COVID-19 is not yet finished wreaking havoc on the movie industry.
One thing to keep an eye on is whether or not the delayed release leads to Morbius adding any additional reshoots. According to Murphy’s Multiverse (an extremely reliable source), Michael Keaton was still doing reshoots as recently as December to incorporate more his Adrian Toomes character from Spider-Man: Homecoming into the movie.
