Triple H retires from in-ring competition

The Game has called it a career after a health scare last September.

WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque has announced his retirement from in-ring competition, following a health scare and heart surgery in September. The Game was on ESPN’s First Take with host Stephen A. Smith, where he announced the news.

On the show, Triple H said he started to cough up blood, leading to his wife, Stephanie McMahon, encouraging him to get checked out. After tests, it was revealed he was undergoing heart failure and was rushed to the emergency room. Since then, Hunter has remained off television and has stayed quiet about his condition.

Triple H is one of the most accomplished professional wrestlers of all time, winning the WWE Championship 9 times and the World Heavyweight Championship 5 times, making him a 14 time world champion. He’s also a former 2-time Royal Rumble winner, King of the Ring, and has also held the Intercontinental Championship, European Championship and various tag team titles, most famously as a founding member of D-Generation X alongside Shawn Michaels.

Outside of the ring, Triple H serves as WWE’s Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development. He will continue to serve that role and is not leaving WWE.

His final matches were against former Evolution stablemate Randy Orton, at Super Showdown in 2019, and again in a no-contest grudge match in the Thunderdome on Monday Night Raw in 2021.
