On Thursday, Justin Kroll of Deadline exclusively revealed that Marvel Studios are working on a project centered around Nova. Kroll’s report stated that it’s unknown if it will be a movie or television series, but Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada has already been brought on board.
Even if you aren’t familiar with the character from the comics, his name likely sounds familiar due to the Nova Corps‘ appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.
Nova (aka Richard Rider) is basically the Corps’ best of the best. He has the standard superhuman strength attributes along with the ability to fly. He can also use something called the Nova Force to unleash powerful energy blasts against his opponents.
There’s another version of Nova in the comics named Samuel Alexander who is much younger. The kid is a perfectly good character, but I think most of us would prefer to see Richard Rider on screen first. If they do go with Sam, however, his origin is very closely tied to the Guardians of the Galaxy. Don’t be surprised if Marvel/Disney decide to pull from both sources for their version of the character.
