Fantasia Film Festival announces first wave of films

Plus, a Career Achievement Award to a Hong Kong legend.

The Fantasia Film Festival has announced its first wave of programming which include a number of World Premieres and new releases from genre favorites. This includes entries from Takashi Miike and Alexandre O. Philippe. J.K. Simmons and Andrea Riseborough will be appearing in new films and there is even a documentary about the connection between David Lynch and The Wizard of Oz.

Fantasia has its roots in Asian cinema. This year groundbreaking Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo will be honored with a Career Achievement Award. With a resume that includes A Better Tomorrow and The Killer along with a unique style, Woo is one of the most influential directors of all time

The festival’s full lineup will be announced in late June. Fantasia has been the home to movies such as Shaun of the Dead and Perfect Blue. Hopefully, this year’s edition will provide some more classics.

The Fantasia International Film Festival takes place July 14 through August 3. The full lineup can be found HERE
