Patton Oswalt’s ‘M.O.D.O.K.’ canceled after one season

Disappointing, especially since the series ended on one heck of a cliffhanger.

On Friday, Lynette Rice of Deadline.com reported that the stop-motion animated M.O.D.O.K. series would not be returning for a second season on Hulu.

The show was created by comedian Patton Oswalt (who also voiced and title character) and Jordan Blum. The animation was done by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, who most folks will recognize as the team behind Robot Chicken.

The news is sure to be disappointing for fans of the show (including us) who enjoyed its irreverent humor and bountiful obscure Marvel easter eggs. Oswalt managed to create comedy gold from one of Marvel’s most ridiculous villains while providing the character with a surprising amount of depth.

The series also ended on one heck of a cliffhanger. After a past version of M.O.D.O.K. killed the current one’s family, our M.O.D.O.K eventually took over the world. Unfortunately, achieving his villainous dreams proved to be a hollow victory without his wife and children by his side.

When we last saw him, M.O.D.O.K. was angrily vowing to bring a past/intact version of his family into his current “perfect” timeline. This setup was sure to provide a ton of multiversal laughs, but alas it wasn’t meant to be.

If you are a huge fan of the character, he’s expected to appear in the third Ant-Man film, albeit in a very different form.
