Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 09/05/2022

Begin the first full week of September with our Channel Surfing TV picks.

There is some great television coming after Labor Day and we suggest a few series in our Channel Surfing TV picks of the week. See what it’s like to live in one of NYC’s most iconic places in Central Park. It’s a battle for martial arts supremacy in the Valley in Cobra Kai. Then, witness how Catherine de’ Medici became The Serpent Queen.

New Faces, Same Park

Central Park follows the exploits of the Tillerman family, who reside in the titular location. Not only do they manage problems that we all encounter in every day life, but they must also fight back the advances of wealthy heiress, Bitsy Brandenham, who dreams of purchasing the park and turning it into real estate and commercial space.

Much has changed since we last left the show. Mayor Whitebottom has resigned and it looks like a new leader is coming in that could potentially seal the location’s fate. Also, original cast member Kristen Bell will be returning to voice Abby, Paige’s sister.

The first three episodes of Central Park season three will be released Friday, September 9, on Apple TV+.

An Evil Karate Empire

Cobra Kai has brought new life to The Karate Kid franchise and may be the best and most popular installment. The series has drawn from many of the films while featuring a different generation of teens to create a compelling narrative.

The latest season will see a literal battle for the Valley as Daniel tries to prevent Terry Silver from expanding Cobra Kai’s influence through opening up new studios. He even turns to a former adversary, Chozen Toguchi, to take down Silver. Meanwhile, Johnny manages his family issues both with his son, Robby, and surrogate son, Miguel.

Binge the entire fifth season of Cobra Kai beginning Friday, September 9, on Netflix.

The Age of Catherine de’ Medici

Catherine de’ Medici was an Italian noblewoman from the 16th century. She would become the Queen of France and was so influential during her time, that she even had her own age named after her. It’s pretty impressive for a woman to wield such power in that era.

Medici is set to be the subject of a new show detailing the hardships she endured along with how her skillful political maneuvering led to her rise in influence. Despite it being a period, piece, the creators have brought a contemporary edge in the same vein of Dickinson. Samantha Morton, who you might recognize as The Walking Dead’s Alpha, plays an adult Medici.

The series premiere of The Serpent Queen will be Sunday, September 11, on Starz.
