Spoilers ahead for Starhenge #3.
Starhenge has been nothing short of breathtaking via Liam Sharp’s incredible visionary art style. It’s like something out of Heavy Metal Magazine but done up with great sequential storytelling. AIPT’s Ben Morin called it ambitious, and he’s not wrong, especially when you consider the cliffhanger in Starhenge #3 out today.
The story is complex and robust, involving Merlin, the mythical figure known for his wizardry in King Arthur, who is fighting a future war in Starhenge. There is also a modern couple somehow involved in all of this, and in today’s issue, their involvement becomes far more weird and strange as a Marvel character first appearing in 1990 makes an appearance.
That character was not only co-created by Liam Sharp, but has been absent from Marvel Comics for some time. Maybe that’s because he’s been busy jumping across universes!
The character in question is none other than Death’s Head II.

As you can see, the character isn’t identical–notably, the mouth is covered with flesh–but the metal plate on the top of the head, the techno-dreads, and the color scheme are the same.
I can say without a doubt this is a super cool reveal, especially getting into comics in the 1990s. Not only does the character design rule, but it’s a neat idea to see Liam Sharp take his baby and bring it into his deeply personal series at Image Comics.
