Fans tapped into creators’ careers, lives, and general thoughts on Twitter may need to open a Hive account soon. The social media platform was all the rage in the last 24 hours, with some of the biggest comics creators joining it en masse. That includes AIPT, which you can follow by searching @aipt!
Similar to Twitter in many ways, the app is relatively new and run by a small group, but it also has features Twitter doesn’t have, like an edit button and the ability to add a song to your profile. The concept of music on your profile was created by Myspace, so it’s nostalgic to see.
Creators who have joined Hive as of the posting of this article include Gail Simone, Tom Taylor, Christian Ward, Chris Wildgoose, Stephanie Phillips, Erica Schultz, Martin Simmonds, Vita Ayala, Valerio Schiti, Dan Slott, Joshua Williamson, Jen Bartel, Al Ewing, Kieron Gillen, Sweeney Boo, Karla Pacheco, Jamal Igle, Joe Quinones, Becky Cloonan, Jason Loo, Steve Lieber, Cavan Scott, Ibrahim Moustafa, Jordan Blum, Zac Thompson, Ethan Sacks, Alex Paknadel, Jody Houser, Michael Conrad, Alison Simpson, Chris Sotomayor, Alex Segura, Mark Russell, Pete Woods, Rich Douek, David Pepose, Jim Zub, Chris Shehan, Meghan Fitzmartin, and Danny Lore to name a few. Editors like Andrea Shea, Chris Conroy, Alanna Smith, Jessica Chen, and Tom Brevoort have also joined the app. This is a growing list, and likely given some of the heavy hitters and editors getting on the app, maybe it’ll stick.
Creators have been testing out other apps of late, like Mastadon, although many seem to agree that Hive is closer to Twitter, easier to use, and quicker to adopt than most alternatives to Twitter. I think Steve Lieber put it best with this meme:
Hive is undoubtedly not perfect, but it’s getting there. The app is a touch slow and a bit buggy. If you have patience, simply waiting a few seconds to let things load does the trick. It’s also mostly available on Android or iOS Apple, so no more scrolling on a browser. At least until Hive gets that up and running.
As Twitter continues to nose-dive with suspect choices, like bringing back Donald Trump or firing engineers en masse, it seems like a good time to try these other options at least. Sure, you might have spent years building up an audience on Twitter, but why not start early with a new option in case it takes off? You won’t want to be left in the dust.
