‘Wytches’ gets animated Amazon Studios series adaptation

Scott Snyder and Jock’s ‘Wytches’ headed to Amazon with new animated series.

Variety had the exclusive news that Scott Snyder and Jock’s Wytches is getting an animated series at Amazon Studios. Snyder and Jock will both executive produce along with Plan B Entertainment, Project 51 Productions’ Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios. The series launched back in 2014 via Image Comics.

The series joins a growing library of comic adaptations at Amazon, including Invincible, which has a second season on the way later this year.

Wytches is possibly my most personal work,” Snyder said to Variety. “It’s all about the monsters that dwell beneath the surface of things, both literally and figuratively. I’ve been intimately involved with this animated series from the start, and I can honestly say that I love this show as much as the book, if not more. The animation brings the incredible art by Jock to life, and the episodic format expands the world of ‘Wytches,’ taking the characters and mythology to terrifying new places. Jock and I are deeply grateful to Plan B Entertainment, Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios for believing in ‘Wytches’ and giving us a chance to make this show dark, personal, twisted, and very special.”

So what’s Wytches about?

Everything you thought you knew about witches is wrong. They are much darker, and they are much more horrifying. Wytches takes the mythology of witches to a far creepier, bone-chilling place than readers have dared venture before.

When the Rooks family moves to the remote town of Litchfield, NH to escape a haunting trauma, they’re hopeful about starting over. But something evil is waiting for them in the woods just beyond town. Watching from the trees. Ancient…and hungry.
