Marvel author Neil Kleid joins the pod to talk about his upcoming novel, The Phoenix Chase, A soaring space adventure starring Kid Omega and the Starjammers in Sh’ar Space from Aconyte Books. To reflect on the book, Neil chose X-Men: Emperor Vulcan #1 to X-read with us as it was one of his research tools when crafting his story. Neil has written several comic books and graphic novels: he adapted Jack London’s novel Call of the Wild into sequentials for Penguin Books, did the opposite for the seminal Marvel Comics’ storyline Spider-Man: Kraven’s Last Hunt, and co-authored Powers: The Secret History of Deena Pilgrim, a novel based on the award-winning comic book series. Savor, his culinary adventure graphic novel with John Broglia and Frank Reynoso, was released by Dark Horse Comics. His X-Men stories, School of X and The Phoenix Chase are available through Aconyte Books.

X-Men: Emperor Vulcan #1 was published in November 2007. In that same month:
- The top film at the time: American Gangster
- The top songs at the time: “Kiss Kiss” by Chris Brown with T-Pain, and “Apologize” by Timbaland and One Republic
X-Men: Emperor Vulcan #1 was written by Christopher Yost and drawn by Paco Diaz.
